Brooding On

Brood Farm Field Trip!

Today we were blessed to host Mrs. Myers 2nd grade class here at the farm.

We talked about Brood Farm's tag line, "Take care. Eat well."  and what it means.  We also talked about goats' milk vs. cows' milk and how/why most children throughout the world drink goat milk.

Even though it wasn't really milking time, Nutmeg was kind enough to play along as I showed the kiddos the various steps of our milking routine, especially all the care we take to be sure our milk stays clean and sanitary.

Of course, 3-week-old Chocolate Chip got lots of attention.  And, we talked about the chickens and their natural roosting and nesting behaviors, using Maggie's chicken tractor as an example.

The kids finished up their tour with a little snack:  Mrs. Myers' chocolate chip cookies dipped in goat milk.  Most of the kiddos emptied their glasses!

Then, I sent them on their way with a little souvenir (I'm pretty sure the souvenirs may be a part of their Mother's Day surprises, so I won't spoil it here :)

I really loved hosting these little ones.  They were so well-behaved, had lots of great questions, and seemed to enjoy learning about the goings-on of our little farm.  I hope we will be blessed in the future to host more educational tours like this one!  Thank you, Mrs. Myers, for providing us this fun opportunity.
