Brooding On

Our Farm-to-Table Date

This past Saturday, this handsome fella and I enjoyed a lovely date at the annual Scott Heritage Farm Family Dinner.

What an amazing event it was!  Scott Heritage Farm owner/farmer Barbara welcomed 60 lucky guests to her farm where we received a farm tour, neighboring plantation tour, and a delicious dinner.  A team of 4 amazing chefs turned the fruits of Barbara's labor into a delectable dinner.  The food was grown, prepared, and served right there on the farm -- a true farm-to-table experience!

The animals had mostly been penned for the event, but there were a few escapees.  One goat had to be put back up when he began nibbling at the band's sound equipment.  ;)  We felt right at home on her farm, which is exactly how Barbara wanted it.  John and I enjoyed identifying the various breeds she has living there.

What a lovely turkey!

Guests were invited to bring their own plates for the event.

My favorite dish was the salad -- goat cheese and squash blossoms on a bed of mixed greens, dressed with a pumpkin spice vinaigrette.

The seasonally appropriate courses just kept coming.  Each one was both beautiful and delicious.

We enjoyed every last bite.  And, what a treat it was to enjoy so much time together!

Thanks to Vaughanda who filled in for us back at the farm and took great care of our goats and chickens while we spent time on another farm.  And thanks to PawPaw who entertained our kiddos with endless Kubota rides while we were away.  Our little evening away wouldn't have been possible without help from these two!
